Level and scope

Seniority before an MBA is measured in exposure, not years. Three years as a business analyst is not management experience, and calling it that will not survive a single follow up question. What the reader is actually grading is how close to the decision you sat. Did you present your own analysis to the client, or did a manager present it. Were you staffed alone on a workstream, or always paired. Was there a moment where the recommendation changed because of something you found.

This matters because the internship you are applying for sits a level above where you left. The reader is not asking whether you were senior, they are asking whether you will be credible in front of a client in eighteen months. Evidence of independent client contact, of owning a deliverable end to end, and of recruiting or mentoring others does that work. Inflated titles do the opposite, because the interview is long enough to find the seam.

Common mistakes on this type of resume

• The education block leads with the school and its ranking and then says nothing else, so the most prominent line on the page is information the reader already had. Fix: Use the space for what you chose and what you did there. Concentration, the two or three courses that match the target role, a leadership post, a competition result. That is content only you have.
• Every analyst bullet rewritten in target industry vocabulary, so a reconciliation clean up becomes a digital transformation initiative. Fix: Describe the work in its own words and let the relevance show. Automated the monthly reconciliation for a fifteen entity client reads as real; transformation language on a small project reads as inflation.
• Savings figures with no denominator. Saved a hospital network 4.2M annually is unreadable without knowing the base and which part of it was yours. Fix: Give the base and your share. On a 60M annual supply spend, built the model behind a sourcing change the client implemented for a 4.2M annual reduction.
• A skills section listing Excel and PowerPoint as though they were differentiators among MBA candidates. Fix: Cut them or make them specific. Name the modeling you can actually build, the query language you write, or the statistical tool you used, and drop anything the whole class also has.
• Pre MBA employers listed with no context, which is fine for a household name and useless for a regional firm or a foreign employer. Fix: Add one clause of scale after the unfamiliar name. A 400 person healthcare advisory in Mumbai tells the reader more than the name alone ever will.
